I photograph a wide variety of subject matter, both in the studio and in the field. However, there are recurring themes and subjects that give me great joy to photograph such as trees, water and sky.
While I have photographed these subjects many times over the length of my photographic career, I can make them new again through the use of a new lens or camera or a unique shooting technique. For the images in this series I used in-camera double exposures during a trip to Lake Superior and Superior National Forest in May of 2022 and post-production composite images made during a family trip to Little Butternut Lake in Wisconsin. These techniques allowed me to see the trees, water and sky in a refreshing new way, and indeed, offered up a very tangible way of “recalling past joy”.
